Hong Kong, Here We Are!
02.12.2010 - 05.12.2010
This is the first miserable trip I ever had. I lost my baggage in the Hong Kong International Airport on the last day, 5th December 2010 about 2.45 p.m outside the Hui lau Shan shop. Nevertheless, this is not my purpose to drop lines in this blog today.
My partner and I start our journey to Hong Kong when we embark to Airasia on 625a.m, 2nd of December 2010. Airasia is not our priority choice as I don't like it so much due to my personal reason, but we have no choice since the time flight between Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong we required is not fit by other airlines.
We touced down about 1015a.m and we took A21 bus to our booked guesthouse which located at 385 Nathan Road namely Golden Island Guesthouse. The room is extremely narrow and the floor does not have ample space for us to open the baggage. I smiled and told myself "Welcome to Hong Kong".
Since we only left half day for our first day in Hong Kong, we went to Avenue Star, East Tsim Sha Tsui.
We took some pictures, then we hunger for good food. We planned to go to Macau Restaurant for meal but we were not able to find the place. We asked people surroundding us, but please prepared to be rejected. Some people will not answer you but gave a shake head signal. Eventually we ate goose roasted rice at somewhere in Tsim Sha Tsui. Taste average but the price is very expensive for a Malaysian like me. HK$28 per plate. I can eat 2 plates of drumstick chicken rice in Malaysia. This first meal in Hong Kong is only a start. More expensive meals are on the way.
After the goose meal, I went to buy Hui Lau Shan popular drink. I chose Harsmar jelly in Mango juice. Per cup cost me HK$22. Holding the exclusive mango juice, I went to visit the Victoria Harbour. From the Victoria Harbour, I could see a beautiful Hong Kong Island night view and I like it very much. It was so beautiful and the cool ambience make us so cosy. We sat and wait until 8p.m to watch the symphony light at Victoria Harbour. For me, the performance is only so-so, but my partner felt very bored with the performance. What do you expect from a free show, my dear?
We ate supper at Hing Kee Rice Pot at Temple Street. I found the restaurant recommended in few blogs, thus we get a try on Octopus and diced chicken rice pot. Taste so-so only.
Second day on 3rd of December 2010, We went to Ling Heung Tea House for breakfast at 830a.m. The tea house is crowded with people and we need to wait for seats. After we seated in behind of the tea house, we ordered for siu mai, char siu bao and chee cheong fun. The chee cheong fun tastes weird and this breakfast cost us about HK$60.
This beautiful sunny day, we went to explore Lantau Island. We went to Giant Buddha via Ngong Ping 360.
Reached at the place, there are christmas decoration for visitors to snap picture. We eat san sui tau fu fa (soy custard made by using water from the mountain) and curry fish ball. It cost HK$10 each (per bowl and stick). After that, we went further and climbed upstairs to Giant Buddha. It was so exhausted when I reach to the peak.
We also went to the Poh Lin Monastery. I saw new construction in progress behind the Poh Lin Monastery and I was amazed that the new construction is more huge than the existing one.
We did not eat the vegetarian at Giant Buddha or Poh Lin Monastery. We continue to explore the Tai O Fishing Village and we ate seafood at one of the restaurant. Tai O people more friendly and polite, in my opinion. They will answer your question in details. We ate steam octopus and steam rice with seafood (the rice steammed and served with the dim sum bamboo steamer). Although this meal cost about HK$150, I still felt worth it. It was so delicious compared to the last meals. You can taste the original freshness of seafood and the rice is very appetising.
At night, we went to The peak to enjoy the wonderful Hong Kong view again. We went to take Peak Tram and you can see so many people queueing up for the tram.
When you are on the tram, you could feel the exciting as the tram moving up the hill more than 45 degree steep, that is what I felt. It was a very short trip and soon we were on the peak of the Hong Kong. The view is so beautiful and you should not miss the chance when you are in Hong Kong.
After coming down from The Peak, We went to Yung Kee Goose Roasted Restaurant and it was a wrong decision to have dinner there. We ordered a regular roasted goose, century egg and sausage rice. The rice they served is so cool, and I do hate restaurant served cool rice. Some more this is a famous restaurant. I like the century egg very much but not the roasted goose. The surface skin is crispy but the meat too stiff and I don't like it, in my opinion. The meal cost about HK$170 and we went out from the restautant with a disappointed feeling.
Since we was nearby Lan Kwai Fong, we just walk to Lan Kwai Fong and wow, it was so happening. People so crowded and music so alive!
Third day on 4th December 2010, we went to Mido Cafe for breakfast. Mido Cafe is a hong kong style cha chan teng like what you normally see in Hong Kong drama 20 years ago. We ordered the sweet sour crispy wan tan and polo bun. Taste quite unique and plus 1 cup of hot milk tea and hot lemon coke, total cost is HK$79.
Today itineary would be shopping, shopping and shopping. From Yau Ma Tei, we walk and shop until Mongkok area. We went to Ladies Street too but eventually we did not buy a lot of things as the things could be cheaper in Malaysia. My partner crazy for books searching for his favourite places, I mean bookstore. He is a bookworm! God, why I choose him while I do like singing...
We ate at behind street, sorry no name is provided. The wan tan noodle and beef ball noodle were quite tasty. Also we went to try the stewed beef brisket behind the Ladies Street, mmm... yummy too! Street food in Hong Kong sometimes give you more satisfaction than the famous or recommended restaurant.
Last day on 5th December 2010, it's time to say bye bye to Hong Kong.
